Summary

Passive funds are useful instruments to quickly lock in positions in the high-yield bond market. The fee advantage relative to active peers, which in the European fund market is quite sizable, is the key positive factor in their favor. However, this remains an asset class where experienced active managers can add value over a standard index-tracking strategy.
