Weekly Wrap: What to Know About Robinhood, the Target-Date Landscape, and Inflation

We recap the week on Morningstar.com and note the most popular stocks, funds, and exchange-traded funds.

Editor's note: Read the latest on how the coronavirus is rattling the markets and what investors can do to navigate it.

By the end of trading on March 23, 2020, U.S. stocks had lost more than a third of their value in 33 days. The market was chaotic. We all wondered how long the coronavirus bear market would last. Of course, no one knew for sure. But based on prior bear markets, many experienced market watchers thought it would be awhile before stocks could recover--and they thought stocks would only bounce back after the global economy showed signs of life.

Then a funny thing happened on March 24: Stocks soared. And although there were some setbacks along the way, stocks in general continued to climb. Despite the pandemic. And civil unrest. And political uncertainty. In the history of market crashes, the coronavirus bear market was the shortest.

So, here we are, one year after the market bottom. Not only have stocks recovered: The U.S. stock market has set new records. Who could've imagined, one year ago, that people would be investing stimulus dollars in stocks? That cryptocurrencies and SPACs would knock the coronavirus and the economy off financial media's digital front page? And that the term "short squeeze" would be uttered around dinner tables across the country? Looks like we've traded one wild market for another.
