Import Your Portfolio in Minutes
The easiest way to build a portfolio for deeper analysis
Our new Import Holdings feature lets you upload holdings from a spreadsheet, brokerage statement, or even a screenshot.
In just a few steps, you can create a portfolio that's ready for the same in-depth analysis available with manually entered holdings—including performance charting and gain/loss analysis—without entering every investment one by one.
Unlike linking an investment account, importing your holdings lets you review and edit details such as cost basis, giving you greater control over your portfolio data.
Not sure which approach is right for you? Read our guide comparing manually added holdings, imported holdings, and linked accounts.
Import files you already have handy
As outlined in our Help Center article, portfolio import accepts many of the files you already have access to as an investor, including:
- Spreadsheets (XLSX and CSV)
- Brokerage statements (PDF)
- Screenshots (PNG, JPG, and JPEG)
After uploading your file, Morningstar Investor identifies your holdings and gives you an opportunity to review and correct any information before completing the import.
For the best results, your file should include:
- Ticker symbols or security names
- Share quantities
- Cost basis, if available
After importing, you can always adjust details for each of your holdings by selecting Manage Transactions from the actions menu next to each security.
