Valuing wide-moat-rated Berkshire Hathaway requires both time and prudence. The firm operates as a decentralized conglomerate, with operations spanning several different market sectors and a multitude of industries. The company is also far less transparent than it should be when reporting results for some parts of its business. As such, valuing the firm can be a challenge, as the potential for error (of both commission and omission) expands the more simplistic or complex a valuation effort gets.
