The Week Ahead: Tech Firms and Retailers Report

We're watching for earnings from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Tiffany, Williams-Sonoma, Dell, and Workday.

Earnings season begins to cool down although a lot of technology and retail companies will report this week. This includes 3-star rated Hewlett Packard Enterprise HPE on Tuesday. Its pending acquisition of supercomputer manufacturer Cray looks on pace to close. Morningstar analyst Mark Cash is not concerned about the smaller firm’s disappointing second-quarter earnings. On Wednesday, highly cyclical specialty retailers Tiffany TIF and Williams-Sonoma WSM, both rated with 3 stars, report earnings, as well as Box BOX and Five Below FIVE.

Thursday is a busy day, with 4-star-rated Dell Technologies DELL and 3-star Workday WDAY reporting earnings. Retailers Best Buy BBY, Dollar General DG, and Dollar Tree DLTR report as well.

Wrapping up on July data, the U.S. gross domestic product estimate and monthly pending home sales data will be announced on Thursday, and the past month’s personal income spending will be reported on Friday.
