Competition and its own missteps have adversely affected Nike over the past three fiscal years. With its restructuring ongoing, the firm anticipates a high-single-digit sales decline in fiscal 2027.
The global sportswear market continues to expand, especially in Asia and other developing markets. As the market share leader with premium offerings, Nike is positioned to benefit.
Bears
Nike has had a tumultuous period due to economic issues in key regions and its own mistakes. Given the depth of its problems, the timing of a turnaround is uncertain, especially in China.
Since its founding in 1964, Nike has become the world's largest sports performance and lifestyle merchandiser. Footwear is its largest category, accounting for about two-thirds of sales. It also sells large amounts of apparel (about 30% of sales) and equipment (5%). Key performance categories include basketball, running, and football (soccer). Brands include Nike, Jordan (premium athletic footwear and clothing), ACG (outdoor), NikeSkims (women’s athleisure), and Converse (casual footwear). Nike sells products worldwide through company-owned stores, franchised stores (including about 5,500 in China), and third-party retailers. The firm also operates e-commerce platforms in more than 40 countries. It outsources nearly all production to contract manufacturers in more than 30 countries.
