Hi, I’m Christine Benz for Morningstar. Every fall, I conduct a series of Portfolio Makeovers featuring "Before" and "After" portfolios of real-life investors.

This year, I’ll be appearing in a special Morningstar.com webcast to discuss five of the most common portfolio problems I see when I do these makeovers. I’ll also share some ideas about how to fix these problem spots.

I’ll be discussing in-retirement portfolios, both in terms of their composition and also safe withdrawal rates. I’ll also cover some of the key areas where investors tend to be underdiversified, including too little non-U.S. exposure and too little inflation protection.

At the other extreme, I’ll discuss the problem of what I call

portfolio sprawl.

Finally, I’ll talk about some of the common tax-related issues I see when I review portfolios, and I'll discuss how to fix them in a tax-efficient way.
