Vanguard Balanced Index is a fixed 60/40 balanced portfolio that provides broad U.S. equities and U.S. investment grade bond exposure, at a rock-bottom price. However, this strategy is somewhat limited, as category peers can invest globally to improve diversification, and make changes to asset allocation. As a result, this fund’s Morningstar Analyst rating has been downgraded to Silver from Gold across share classes. It is still a solid option for investors who want a low-cost, domestic balanced fund.
