Transamerica Short-Term Bond’s former lead manager and Aegon USA Investment Management’s former head of U.S. fixed income Doug Weih retired effective Nov. 30, 2022 after more than 20 years at the firm. The strategy’s collaborative approach blends the collective expertise of its comanagers. This team-oriented process mitigates the impact of Weih’s departure. Brian Westhoff assumed the de facto lead portfolio manager role here and took over as head of U.S. fixed income when Weih left. Named as a portfolio manager on this offering since 2016, Westhoff joined Aegon in 2011 and most recently served as head of multisector portfolio management; prior to that, he spent eight years with Aegon’s affiliate, Transamerica Investment Management. Westhoff retains the support of comanagers Norbert King and Tyler Knight; collectively, the trio averages 18 years of industry experience. This strategy’s manager cohort won’t suffer a head-count loss as a result of Weih’s retirement, either; they added senior portfolio manager Sivakumar Rajan to the roster. A generalist by trade, Rajan is primarily responsible for portfolio management of investment-grade credit and multisector strategies; he has been with Aegon dating back to 2007 and has 18 years of industry experience. The strategy’s Morningstar Analyst Ratings remain unchanged, ranging from Neutral to Negative depending on share class fees.
