Analyst Note

American Funds parent Capital Group announced that Martin Jacobs will join American Funds American Mutual's management team on Nov. 16, 2023, bringing the total of named managers to eight. Comanager Bradley Vogt passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 20, 2023. Vogt had spent his entire 35-year investment career with Capital Group and had been a manager on this strategy since 2015. This does not alter the strategy's High People rating or its Morningstar Medalist Ratings. Jacobs is an industry veteran. He has run a sleeve of American Funds AMCAP AMCPX and American Funds Investment Company of America AIVSX for four years each. He has also served as an undisclosed manager on this fund for three years, something Capital Group does regularly when adding managers to strategies. Jacobs has spent 22 of his 34 years in the industry at the firm, where he has covered U.S. industrials, machinery, and electrical equipment companies. He focuses on investing in two types of businesses for the long term. In one bucket, he likes built-to-last companies with solid management teams and superior competitive advantages. In the other bucket, he likes to invest in unloved businesses that are experiencing a short-term challenge.
