April US Jobs Report: 177,000 Rise in Payrolls, Above Expectations
Unemployment rate unchanged at 4.2%.

The US economy added 177,000 jobs in April, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is above economists’ forecasts but down from the previous month.
The government’s report revised down its previous estimate for new job creation in March to 185,000 from an originally reported 228,000, but slightly revised up its previous estimates for February.
The unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.2% in April. The rate “has remained in a narrow range of 4.0% to 4.2% since May 2024,” the BLS noted.
Economists predicted the US economy would add 135,000 jobs in April, lower than the originally reported 228,000 added in March. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate was forecast to remain unchanged at 4.2%.

“Employment continued to trend up in healthcare, transportation and warehousing, financial activities, and social assistance. Federal government employment declined,” the BLS said.
