Marcos Alvarez

Marcos Alvarez is a Managing Director at Morningstar DBRS’ Global Financial Institution Ratings group. Currently based in Madrid, he leads the firm’s credit teams responsible for European banks and global insurance and pension funds. Marcos has over two decades of experience in risk management, credit analysis and lending underwriting for financial institutions. Before joining Morningstar DBRS in 2018, Marcos worked in corporate credit and counterparty risk for several global banks and a large pension fund with stints in Toronto and New York. He began his career in insurance as a property and energy underwriter covering corporate accounts in Latin America. Marcos holds a B.Sc. in economics from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. He also holds an MBA with distinction from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, and he completed a risk management executive education program for corporate leaders at Harvard Business School. He is currently pursuing an Executive Ph.D. in management at ESCP Business School.
