FedEx Freight's Volumes Muted, but We Look for Demand Improvement as 2026 Progresses

Business Strategy and Outlook

FedEx Freight is by far the largest North American less-than-truckload carrier. FedEx Freight spun off from global parcel shipping behemoth FedEx on June 1, 2026. We believe both companies intend the separation to unlock shareholder value for FedEx Freight by enabling a more targeted strategic focus on LTL shipping, particularly in capital allocation. In short, FedEx Freight now has a go-to-market strategy that’s more tailored to the LTL trucking industry rather than being bundled as part of a massive global express and ground parcel shipping enterprise. We believe the transaction puts FedEx Freight in a better position to compete effectively with its key high-quality public competitors Old Dominion, XPO, and SAIA.
