Narrow-moat Sysco’s SYY search for a CFO has concluded, with Kenny Cheung set to step into the role on April 17. Interim CFO Neil Russell, a longtime Sysco insider, will move into a newly created chief administrative officer role predominantly designed to oversee the execution of the firm’s “Recipe for Growth” strategy. We don’t expect to change our $82 fair value estimate or our Standard Capital Allocation Rating in light of the transition.

Cheung’s career includes stints at Hertz, Nielsen, and General Electric with a variety of roles supporting supply chain, international, and financial planning and analysis functions. While his résumé doesn’t feature direct exposure to the food-service industry, the transition should be eased by Russell’s decision to stay on in the adapted role. Cheung comes into an organization that continues to deftly outgrow the food distribution industry in aggregate, while navigating stout inflationary headwinds and recent declines in restaurant traffic. We continue to view mid-single-digit annual sales growth (5%) through 2027 and mid-single-digit operating margins (5.3% by that year) as attainable.
