Hal Ratner is the head of research for Morningstar Investment Management. He and his team are responsible for researching, developing, and managing lifecycle investment services.

Before rejoining Morningstar in 2003, Ratner served as vice president of investments for San Francisco based mPower. He was chief investment officer of Morningstar Investment Management Europe and also worked as a portfolio manager and senior research consultant, co-managing $20 billion in mutual fund and variable insurance product assets for U.S.-based clients.

Ratner’s research has appeared in publications including the Journal of Portfolio Management, the Journal of Wealth Management, and the Journal of Indexes.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Antioch College and is a member of the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago.
