What is the Investigation About?
On May 7, 2026, before the market opened, Better Home & Finance reported first-quarter financial results and projected second-quarter loan volume of $1.575 billion to $1.725 billion. During the accompanying earnings call, management disclosed that its target of reaching $1 billion in monthly funded loan volume by the end of May appeared likely to be deferred.
Following this news, the price of Better Home & Finance stock fell $12.17 per share, or 28.5%, to close at $30.52 per share on May 7, 2026.
Management explained that loan conversion rates had declined from first-quarter levels due to macroeconomic factors, including a spike in interest rates and escalation in the Middle East. Management further acknowledged that customers were converting at substantially lower rates and that the timing of reaching the monthly funding target would depend on the interest-rate environment.
