The class offers research-backed practices to help members move through any major loss with resilience and hope

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MasterClass, the personalized learning platform unlocking human potential with the world's best, today announced the launch of its latest class, Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss, timed ahead of World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10. The class is taught by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Dr. Mary-Frances O'Connor, grief neuroscientist, psychologist, and bestselling author of The Grieving Brain and The Grieving Body. Together, they teach the tools to turn loss into growth and unlock the resilience that lives within each of us. The class is available exclusively on MasterClass, where subscribers have unlimited access to 200+ instructors with an annual membership.

Prince Harry, who spent his teenage years and early twenties suppressing grief, shares his reflections on loss and the path he took to discovering his purpose; Dr. O'Connor brings 20 years of research into how grief reshapes our physiology. In the class, they share tactics on how to face loss of every kind—death, divorce, illness, career change, relocation—and move through the pain toward a thriving new chapter.

1 A note on support: This class discusses grief and loss and may bring up difficult emotions. If you are struggling with depression, thoughts of suicide, or a mental health crisis, please seek professional support. If in the U.S., call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline; in the U.K., call 116 123 for Samaritans; outside these regions, contact your local crisis service.

The class unfolds in five parts:

  • Reframe Grief. Dr. O'Connor explains how grief affects the brain and body and why many common responses to loss have a physiological basis. Viewers learn that grieving isn't linear and that understanding what's happening can help them move toward hope, joy, and integration.

  • Break the Old Patterns. The class explores how suppressing grief can take over your life. Members learn to recognize those patterns and begin replacing suppression with adaptation.

  • Upgrade Your System. Members learn simple, science-backed practices they can use on difficult days, including progressive muscle relaxation and breathwork.

  • Rebuild Who You're Becoming. Rather than trying to return to who they were before a loss, members learn how to rebuild their sense of self and move toward a new identity shaped by what they've lived through.

  • Turn Pain Into Purpose. Prince Harry and Dr. O'Connor show members how to channel the pain of loss into resilience and purpose, opening the possibility of a new chapter grounded in hope, wisdom, and even joy.

"Grief isn't something you move past—it's something you move through," Dr. O'Connor said. "This class gives members the science and the tools to do that moving, so they rebuild not back to who they were, but into who they're becoming."

Supporting Scotty's Little Soldiers and Comfort Zone Camp
As part of the launch, MasterClass is supporting two organizations that help young people through grief: Scotty's, a U.K. charity Prince Harry has long championed that supports the bereaved British Armed Forces community, and Comfort Zone Camp, the first 501(c)(3) bereavement camp in the United States. Both put into practice a central idea from the class: Being with others who understand your loss is, on its own, healing.
