What Happened
An unauthorized third party accessed certain CAZ systems between August 8 and August 12, 2026. On August 21, 2026, a ransomware group known as The Gentlemen claimed on a dark web site that it had obtained CAZ data, and on August 25, 2026, CAZ determined the accessible files may contain personal information. CAZ worked with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement and confirmed the incident was contained. It identified 3,824 Texas residents and 413 Massachusetts residents as affected; the nationwide total has not been confirmed.
What Personal Information May Be at Risk
Based on public accounts and regulatory filings, the information potentially involved varied by individual. The data that may have been compromised includes names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, government-issued identification numbers (passport, tax ID, and driver's license numbers), and financial account information. CAZ has stated it is unaware of any misuse to date.
Your Legal Options
Edelson Lechtzin LLP is investigating a potential class action on behalf of individuals whose sensitive personal and financial data may have been compromised. A successful case could recover compensation for losses such as lost time, out-of-pocket costs, and loss of privacy, and could push CAZ Investments LP to strengthen how it protects personal information. Anyone who received a breach notification may face an increased risk of identity theft and fraud and is encouraged to come forward. The firm will evaluate your rights and potential claims at no cost.
Recommended Steps to Protect Yourself

- Preserve your notification letter and monitor your account statements and credit reports for suspicious activity.
Consider placing a fraud alert or security freeze with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
Because a ransomware group has claimed to hold the data, stay alert for scams and phishing referencing this breach, and report suspected identity theft to law enforcement and the FTC.
