Dow ends over 200 points lower after Fed's Waller sees no rush on 2024 rate cuts

U.S. stocks ended lower Tuesday as investors weighed corporate earnings and new comments from a Federal Reserve hawk suggesting interest-rate cuts could happen this year, but with no urgency on the timeline.

How stocks traded

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA ended 0.6% lower, according to preliminary data from FactSet. The S&P 500 SPX fell 0.4%The Nasdaq Composite COMP finished down 0.2%

Stocks rose last week, with the S&P 500 finishing Friday just 0.3% away from its record close set on Jan. 3, 2022.
