Blackstone, Boston Scientific Sign $455 Million Deal to Co-Fund Heart Pump
By Katherine Hamilton
Blackstone Life Sciences signed a $455 million deal with Boston Scientific to co-fund the development of a minimally invasive heart pump.
The two companies are developing Vitalyst, a Boston Scientific device designed to support heart pumping without open-heart surgery.
The Vitalyst system is being developed to treat cardiogenic shock, a medical emergency when the heart cannot pump enough blood.
The deal marks the first time the two companies have collaborated to fund a Boston Scientific product.
"We believe the Vitalyst system has the potential to improve on the efficacy and safety of currently available mechanical circulatory support technologies," said Nicholas Galakatos, head of Blackstone Life Sciences.
