By Colin Kellaher
ExxonMobil has raised its quarterly dividend by 3.9%, to $1.07 from $1.03, and the energy giant said it plans to buy $20 billion in stock next year.
The new payout, equal to $4.28 a year, represents an annual yield of about 2.34%, based on Thursday's closing price of $183.29, up from 2.25%.
ExxonMobil's 44th straight annual dividend increase maintains the Spring, Texas, company's spot in the S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrat index, whose 69 members have paid a higher dividend annually for at least 25 years.
The company on Friday said the increased dividend is payable Dec. 10 to shareholders of record Nov. 16.
ExxonMobil, which had more than four billion shares outstanding at the end of June, shelled out $5.1 billion to buy back stock during the third quarter.
