Amazon to Cut Some Staff, Focusing on Device and Services Unit
By Kelly Cloonan
Amazon.com is trimming some of its workforce, primarily from its device and services team, a move the technology company said is aimed at boosting efficiency within that division.
The plans affect fewer than 250 roles throughout the company. Amazon employed about 1.6 million full-time and part-time employees as of the end of last year, according to its latest annual filing.
The restructuring is part of changes in the unit "to operate more efficiently and better align with our product roadmap," an Amazon spokesperson said.
The cuts come after Amazon rolled out a number of new products in recent weeks, such as a new, pricier lineup of Alexa-branded tablets and redesigned Kindles.
