Amazon to Hire More Than 300,000 U.S. Workers for Holiday Season — Update
By Robb M. Stewart
Amazon.com is launching a major holiday hiring drive with plans to bring on more than 300,000 workers for its U.S. operations this holiday season.
The company said it is seeking people for seasonal, part-time and full-time roles at its core operations nationwide. Job openings will be posted weekly from October through December.
The target hiring number is a 20% increase from a year ago, when Amazon said it planned to hired 250,000 workers to help with the busy holiday season.
The push comes amid positioning by companies seeking to boost their ranks to meet demand for the holiday season. United Parcel Service earlier this month said it aims to hire 100,000 seasonal employees in hundreds of locations around the country.
Amazon's seasonal employees earn an average of $20 an hour and have access to a range of benefits and the opportunity to transition into full-time roles, the company said. Full-time operations employees start at a minimum of $20 an hour, with average hourly pay reaching nearly $24 before benefits.
As well, it said seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours a week will be offered healthcare coverage on their first day, with plan options starting at $5 a week with $5 copays.
