Energy Up With Oil Futures — Energy Roundup

Shares of energy companies rose alongside oil futures, which tested the psychologically significant $100-per-barrel level in New York.

Oil rose by the largest weekly increment since July after Ukraine renewed attacks on Russian refineries, adding to concerns about persistent Middle East supply risks and uncertainty over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Traders were also spooked by a report earlier in the week of surprisingly large drawdowns on U.S. fuel inventories.

Distillate inventories, which include diesel and heating oil, stood at about 102.6 million barrels in the week ended Oct. 9, according to the Energy Information Administration, down 12% from a year earlier.

Yaoyao Liu, a star oil trader who found himself deep in the hole on a bet made at the start of the Iran war, is set to leave commodities giant Vitol.
