Givaudan Shares Climb After Sales Beat Expectations

By Adria Calatayud

Givaudan shares jumped after the Swiss supplier of food ingredients and perfume scents reported third-quarter sales that beat analysts' expectations.

Shares in Givaudan were up 6.5% in European morning trading Tuesday, taking the stock's year-to-date gain to more than 18%.

The company said third-quarter sales came in at 2.09 billion Swiss francs ($2.50 billion), up 11% compared with the year-earlier period. On a like-for-like basis, sales grew 8.6%, with a 14% jump in fragrance-and-beauty sales and a 3.5% rise in the group's taste-and-wellbeing segment.

Analysts had forecast Givaudan's quarterly sales at 1.99 billion francs and like-for-like growth at 4.7%, according to consensus estimates compiled by the company.

Givaudan said its sales growth momentum accelerated in the first nine months of the year, thanks to a sustained strong performance in its fragrance-and-beauty business and improving trends in its taste-and-wellbeing segment. Strong organic growth in sales of fine fragrances and consumer products lifted the results of the group's fragrance-and-beauty division, it added.

Investor expectations were running high into Givaudan's update, but the group's organic growth was exceptionally strong and mainly driven by volumes, with a minimal effect from pricing, analysts at Bernstein wrote in a note to clients.
