Porsche Increases Stake in Racing and Performance Partner Manthey

By Dominic Chopping

Porsche has increased its stake in German auto racing team and performance tuning company Manthey Racing as part of its new strategy that will see it expand the number of optional performance extras it can offer to Porsche buyers.

The German luxury sports car maker on Wednesday outlined a plan to accelerate profitability over the coming years, which included expanding the individualization options on its cars.

As part of this, it said Thursday it has increased its stake in Manthey to 67% and will broaden its collaboration with the company in areas such as special models, performance kits and track experiences.

Manthey managing directors Nicolas and Martin Raeder jointly hold the remaining 33% stake.

"Manthey has been a trusted Porsche partner for many years, firmly rooted in the motorsport community and with a loyal customer base," Porsche Chief Executive Michael Leiters said. "We intend to build on this."

Since 2020, Porsche and Manthey have developed nine joint Manthey Kits designed to boost car performance--from the 911 and the 718 to the latest Taycan Turbo GT.

Porsche originally bought 51% of Manthey in 2013.

Financial terms of Thursday's agreement weren't disclosed.
