Thailand's Prime Minister Says at 'Final Paragraph' of U.S. Trade Deal

By Amanda Lee

Thailand is close to finalizing a trade agreement with the U.S., Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said, citing a letter he received from Trump last week.

"I would say we are writing together the final paragraph--and it requires the decision, the green light from the [U.S.] President," he said at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore on Wednesday.

"[Trump] told me that I was to make sure that my people and the [U.S. Trade Representative] would write up the final clause," he said at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore on Wednesday.

Trump indicated in the letter that he expects the two countries to sign the agreement during his next visit to Asia, Anutin said, adding that he expects Trump to attend the Asean Summit in Manila and the APEC CEO Summit in Shenzhen in November.

The White House and the U.S. Trade Representative did not respond to Dow Jones Newswires' queries about the possible signing of the trade agreement.

"So he has already opened up...to this level, to this point, and the rest will be [for] Thailand to finish it up," Anutin said.

Most Thai goods exported to the U.S. face a U.S. 12.5% levy under an American law tied to restrictions on imports made with forced labor.

U.S. goods imports from Thailand reached $91.3 billion in 2025, up 45% from 2024, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
