Consumer Cos Down as Rate Worries Weigh on Home Builders — Consumer Roundup

Consumer companies fell amid rate worries.

The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate rose to 7.55% in the latest tally, according to Bankrate.

The SPDR S&P Homebuilders exchange-traded fund, which tracks a basket of builders, fell by more than 2.5% and is now down by more than 9% for the year to date.

Brewer and distiller Constellation Brands logged growth in fiscal second-quarter earnings and sales, as strong beer sales at bars and restaurants made up for a slowdown in grocery and liquor stores.

Japan's four major beer brewers were probed by the Japanese antitrust regulator for suspected violations of antimonopoly regulations, the companies said.
