Consumer companies rose amid hopes for moderation in fuel prices.

French fry maker Lamb Weston said profit and sales exceeded expectations in the latest quarter, as strong demand offset the impact of rising costs.

Shares of ASOS fell sharply after posts on social-media platform X claimed some of the online retailer's customers received an app notification of an alleged hack.

One measure of newly pending home sales logged its greatest drop since 2023 following September's rise in mortgage rates, according to real-estate website Zillow.
