Nymex Overview: Oil, Products Jump on Renewed Mideast Tensions — OPIS

Crude oil and refined product contracts rose sharply around midday Wednesday, fueled by renewed Middle East supply worries after news of a fresh attack on a tanker transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.

At 11:55 a.m. ET, November NYMEXT West Texas Intermediate crude futures were up $2.10 to around $91.50/bbl and December WTI was $2.20 higher to $89.45/bbl.

London-based November ICE Brent was up $1.15 to $103.70/bbl and December Brent was $2.65 higher to $98.80/bbl.

Both oil benchmarks partially recouped Tuesday's solid losses on reports that flows through Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline continued to recover more quickly than expected.

The more-active November ULSD contract surged 18.75cts to $4.6975/gal and October ULSD was 6.5cts higher to $4.963/gal. November RBOB was up 14.15cts to $3.274/gal and October RBOB was 10.65cts higher to $3.385/gal.

Earlier Wednesday, the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations said it received a report that a vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unknown projectile.

Petroleum futures remained higher after the latest weekly data by the Energy Information Administration showed gasoline and distillate stocks declined moderately for the week ended Friday compared to a week ago.
