Novo Nordisk's Wegovy Pill Gains EU Approval

By Mauro Orru

Novo Nordisk said it had received the go ahead to market its Wegovy weight-loss pill in the European Union, paving the way for a rollout of the oral version of the drug across the bloc's 27 member states.

The Danish drugmaker said the European Commission, the bloc's executive arm, had granted marketing authorization for the pill as a once-daily treatment for overweight or obese adults. The EU also approved Wegovy as an injection in a single-dose pen.

The announcement comes just over a month after the U.K. became the first country in Europe to approve the Wegovy pill, which is currently available in the U.S., the U.K. and the U.A.E. Novo Nordisk said it plans to launch the pill in more markets in the second half of the year.
