Intel to Invest EUR5 Billion for Expanded Manufacturing in Ireland
By Dean Seal
Intel said it plans to invest 5 billion euros ($5.71 billion) to expand its manufacturing site in Ireland.
The chip maker said the capital investment in its Leixlip campus will boost production and advance research and development activities while utilizing capacity across the site's existing cleanroom space.
The upgrade will see Intel strengthening Europe's semiconductor supply chain and serve industry demand, the company said.
The execution of the 5 billion euro expenditure program started earlier this year and is expanded to engage specialized tradespeople across construction and equipment installation.
Chief Technology and Operations Officer Naga Chandrasekaran said the project would increase output of critical products, including its Xeon 6 and next-generation Xeon processors built on the company's Intel 3 process technologies.
"We are ensuring that Ireland remains at the forefront of the world's most advanced manufacturing ecosystems," Chandrasekaran said.
