U.S. Futures, European Stocks Fall

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.5% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 0.4%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 declined 0.8% in morning trading. Next climbed 6.7% and LPP added 4.3%. On the other hand, Boliden lost 18.9%, and Edenred dropped 7.4%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.7%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 declined 0.7% and Germany's DAX fell 1.1%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index rose 0.1% to 96.58.

In commodities, Brent crude rose 2.3% to $99.54 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 2.8% to $92.87 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 2.4% to 54.1 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 5 basis points to 3.014% from 2.962%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 4 basis points to 4.374% from 4.335%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were down as Japan's Nikkei 225 index declined 0.3%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 1.9%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite declined 1.1%.
