ImmunityBio Gets First Anktiva Authorization in Asia
By Kelly Cloonan
ImmunityBio received regulatory approval for its Anktiva drug in Macau, marking the treatment's first authorization in Asia.
The biotechnology company said Friday the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau of the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China granted the approval for Anktiva in combination with Bacillus Calmette-Guérin for adult patients with BCG-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer with carcinoma in situ, with or without papillary tumors.
The approval follows a review that considered prior regulatory decisions by the Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency, the company said.
The approval reflects ImmunityBio's plans to expand internationally. The company said it continues to engage with additional health authorities across the Asia-Pacific region and is beginning to prepare for potential commercial distribution.
"Our focus is on executing this expansion in a disciplined manner, building on our existing approvals to support long-term global access for patients," Chief Executive Richard Adcock said.
