NextEra, Exelon Get PJM Approval for Mid-Atlantic Electricity Transmission Line
By Nicholas G. Miller
The board of power grid operator PJM approved NextEra Energy's and Exelon's proposed 220-mile electricity transmission line in the mid-Atlantic.
The companies said the project would enhance electric reliability and affordability for West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the mid-Atlantic region "as electricity supply struggles to keep pace with rising demand."
The project will add capacity to meet rising demand and enable new energy generation to connect to the grid, the companies said.
"As electricity demand increases are outpacing the current supply, this investment will be critical to ensuring we can bring the energy needed to meet the needs of families and small businesses across Pennsylvania and West Virginia while keeping customer affordability at the forefront," said Carim Khouzami, executive vice president of transmission and development for Exelon.
