Goldsky Resources Buys Full Control of Swedish Project From Agnico Eagle for Cash, Shares

By Robb M. Stewart

Agnico Eagle Mines will secure a bigger stake in gold explorer Goldsky Resources as part of a deal to sell its majority interest in a Swedish project to the smaller company.

Goldsky said Wednesday it reached a definitive agreement to buy the remaining 55% interest in the Barsele gold project, consolidating its ownership in exchange for $20 million in cash and 75.5 million of its shares. The Canadian company also will grant Agnico's Swedish subsidiary a 2% net smelter royalty return on Barsele.

The deal will result in Agnico taking an almost 33% shareholding in Goldsky, on a pro forma basis. It previously owned a 4.1% stake.

The push to take control of Barsele, which is located in the mining district of Vaesterbottens Laen in northern Sweden, comes after Goldsky in September raised 80 million Canadian dollars ($58.9 million).
