HCA Healthcare Shares Jump With Bigger Buyback, Higher 4Q Profit

Shares of HCA Healthcare rose after the company's board raised its dividend, boosted its buyback program and reported higher fourth-quarter profit.
The stock jumped 11% to $524.60 in midday Tuesday trading. Shares have surged 58% in the past 12 months.
The Nashville, Tenn., hospital owner and operator on Tuesday approved an additional share repurchase program for up to $10 billion of its stock. HCA also raised its quarterly dividend by 6 cents, to 78 cents per share.
The company posted fourth-quarter earnings of $1.88 billion, or $8.14 per share, compared with $1.44 billion, or $5.63 a share, in the year-ago quarter.
The results came in ahead of Wall Street expectations of $7.43 per share, according to FactSet.
Adjusted fourth quarter earnings were $8.01 per share, also exceeding the $7.46 expected by analysts polled by FactSet.
