Abbott Gets FDA Approval for Volt Medical Device to Treat Arrhythmia

By Elias Schisgall

Abbott received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its Volt Pulsed Field Ablation System to treat atrial fibrillation.

The medical technology company said Monday that it would soon begin commercializing the device in the U.S. for patients with AFib, a common form of arrhythmia.

Abbott said the approval was based on a study of the device that showed strong safety and efficacy data.

The company has already been selling a version of the device in Europe following European Union approval earlier this year.
