Vertex Pharmaceuticals Revenue Climbs on Demand for Cystic Fibrosis Drugs

By Kelly Cloonan

Vertex Pharmaceuticals logged higher revenue in its latest quarter as it continues to see strong demand for its cystic fibrosis treatments.

The biotechnology company on Monday posted a third quarter profit of $1.08 billion, or $4.20 a share, compared with $1.05 billion, or $4.01 a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were $4.80, ahead of estimates of $4.58 a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue rose 11% to $3.08 billion, topping the $3.06 billion analysts projected.

In the U.S., revenue climbed 15%, to $1.98 billion, helped by strong demand and higher pricing for its cystic-fibrosis drugs, the company said. Its Casgevy and Journavx drugs, which treat severe sickle cell disease and acute pain, respectively, also contributed.

International revenue rose 4%.

For the year, Vertex raised the low end of its revenue outlook to a range of $11.9 billion to $12 billion from a prior view of $11.85 billion to $12 billion.
