EssilorLuxottica Shares Soar After Revenue Accelerates Ahead of Forecasts

By Andrea Figueras

Shares in EssilorLuxottica surged after the Ray-Ban maker reported an acceleration in quarterly revenue that smashed analysts' forecasts.

The Franco-Italian eyewear company logged a 12% revenue increase for the third quarter, excluding currency movements, to 6.87 billion euros ($8.03 billion). The result, its best quarterly performance since the creation of the group in 2018, came ahead of consensus estimates of 6.75 billion euros, according to Visible Alpha.

Paris-listed shares climbed 12% to 308.70 euros in morning trading. Over the year to date, the stock has jumped around 31%.

EssilorLuxottica posted an impressive acceleration compared with the previous quarter, when it booked a 7.3% increase, analysts at Jefferies wrote in a research note. The company is a leader and consolidator in a growing optical market, while also demonstrating strong innovation capabilities in several categories, including hearing aids and smart glasses, the analysts added.

Consumers' appetite for glasses featuring artificial intelligence remained strong and was boosted further by the presentation of the three new models, EssilorLuxottica said. The group joined forces with Facebook-owner Meta Platforms to develop smart eyewear. Analysts at Citi highlight the relevance of the results, as they provide an important proof-point for these products in particular.

Given Meta's ambitions in wearables, a broadened partnership or even a stakeholding seems possible, Jefferies said.

While investors broadly anticipated a strong third-quarter print, the double-digit growth at the group level and particularly in the key North America market exceeded even the most optimistic expectations, UBS analysts said in a note to clients. In this core region, which accounts for the lion's share of the company's sales, the firm recorded a 12% rise in revenue.

EssilorLuxottica didn't disclose a numerical guidance for the current year, but said it entered the fourth quarter with strong momentum. It also confirmed its long-term ambitions of mid-single-digit annual revenue growth through 2026 at constant exchange rates and an adjusted operating margin of between 19% and 20% by the end of that period.
