Gilead Settles Patent Suits for HIV Treatment — Update

Gilead Sciences said it has reached settlements with multiple drugmakers that had sought to market generic versions of Biktarvy, its treatment for HIV, delaying generic competition for more than a decade.
The Foster City, Calif., biopharmaceutical company said in a regulatory filing Monday that it resolved patent litigation with Lupin, Cipla and Laurus Labs. The settlements came after the three companies filed abbreviated new drug applications with the Food and Drug Administration to market generic versions of Biktarvy.
Under the agreements, no generic version of Biktarvy is expected to enter the U.S. market before April 1, 2036, Gilead said.
Lupin declined to comment, while Cipla and Laurus Labs didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
The settlements seem to extend Biktarvy's exclusivity in the U.S., JPMorgan analysts said, noting they had forecast generic competition beginning in 2033. The added runway will give Gilead more time to advance new HIV therapies and strengthen the position of the business, they added.
Gilead shares edged up 0.6% in midday trading, after initially gaining more than 4% premarket.
