EchoStar Shares Rise on Report of Spectrum Sale Talks With Verizon

By Nicholas G. Miller

Shares of EchoStar rose in off-hours trading after Bloomberg reported the company was in talks to sell wireless spectrum to Verizon.

The stock was up 7% to $78.82 in premarket trading and more than tripled so far this year as of Monday's close.

Bloomberg reported Monday that Verizon was in discussions with EchoStar regarding its AWS-3 licenses, which are valuable for carrying 5G signals.

In recent weeks, Englewood, Colo.-based EchoStar has agreed to sell spectrum to SpaceX for $17 billion and to AT&T for $23 billion. Following the agreements, analysts have widely expected EchoStar to sell the rest of its spectrum to other wireless carriers.
