Align Technology Files ITC Complaint to Block Dental Aligner Imports From Angelalign

Align Technology has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission in an effort to block imports of clear, teeth-straightening aligners from Angelalign Technology.
The medical-device company, which designs and sells Invisalign, said Tuesday that the complaint alleges Angelalign's aligner products infringe on its patents.
Align is seeking an exclusion order to bar the importation of those products into the U.S. and a cease-and-desist order to halt the sale of such products already present in the country, it said.
The complaint was filed under the Tariff Act, which prohibits unfair competition and acts in the importation or sale of goods.
In August, Align initiated legal actions against Shanghai-based Angelalign in the U.S., Europe and China for infringing on its patents, which cover innovations like multilayer orthodontic aligner materials, treatment planning and advanced aligner features, it said at the time.
A spokesperson for Angelalign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
