Seres Therapeutics to Cut Staff by 25%, Extend Cash Runway
By Dean Seal
Seres Therapeutics will reduce its workforce by 25% and extend its cash runway into the second quarter of next year as it finalizes the protocol for a study of its bloodstream infections prevention program.
The biotherapeutics company said Tuesday that the job cuts are part of a streamlining of its operations, with a plan to keep the personnel that are key to preparing for a planned Phase 2 study of SER-155.
SER-155 is Seres' lead biotherapeutic program, aimed at preventing bloodstream infections in adults undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
The Food and Drug Administration recently provided feedback on the Phase 2 study protocol for SER-155, which is expected to support finalization of that protocol, Seres said.
The job cuts and other cost saving initiatives should help Seres extend its cash runway into the second quarter of 2026. The workforce reduction is expected to cost Seres about $1 million to $1.4 million in cash, primarily from severance costs, which will be paid out in the fourth quarter of this year.
