Vodafone to Buy Telekom Romania Assets for $35.4 Million

By Anthony O. Goriainoff

Vodafone said it would acquire Telekom Romania assets from Hellenic Telecommunications Organization for 30 million euros ($35.4 million).

The U.K.-based telecommunication group on Friday said that as part of the deal it would also buy its post-paid customer base.

Telecommunications provider Digi Romania said it agreed to acquire Telekom Romania's pre-paid customer base.

Both companies will also gain additional spectrum and towers as part of the transaction, which is expected to take place in early October.

Vodafone Romania said the deal strengthened its position in the country as it increased its scale locally and unlocked significant synergy benefits.

"It supports our strategy of building strong positions in growing markets, which enables us to invest in the high-quality networks our customers rely on," Vodafone Group Chief Executive Margherita Della Valle said.
