Lyft Stock at 3-Year High on Expanded Waymo Partnership
By Dean Seal
Shares of Lyft are at a three-year high after the ride-hailing company unveiled a partnership with Alphabet's Waymo to bring robotaxis to Nashville, Tenn.
The stock was up 12% at $22.69 after the opening bell. Shares haven't traded this high since May 2022.
Lyft said before the opening bell that the team-up will bring Waymo's fully autonomous ride-hailing service to Nashville in 2026, with Lyft providing end-to-end fleet management with the proprietary integrated fleet-management services of its subsidiary Flexdrive.
Customers will be able to hail a Waymo self-driving vehicle on the Waymo app initially, with plans in place to dispatch its fleet on Lyft's platform for matched rides later in the year, Lyft said.
Ride-hailing companies and robotaxi firms are racing to get a chunk of the burgeoning market for autonomous rides.
Lyft already offers robotaxis in Atlanta through a partnership with May Mobility. It has a plan to expand to Dallas with the help of Mobileye and is looking to launch in Germany and the U.K. with Baidu next year.
Uber Technologies also has a partnership with Waymo, among other self-driving companies, and is currently offering autonomous rides in Atlanta, Phoenix and Austin, Texas.
