Communications Services Up, But not by Much, as SpaceX Deal Weighs — Communications Services Roundup

Communications-services companies rose, but not by much, as a new entrant rattled the already competitive wireless market.

Shares of cell-phone carriers such as T-Mobile US and AT&T fell sharply after Elon Musk's SpaceX rocketry company agreed to buy spectrum licenses from satellite operator EchoStar for roughly $17 billion, expanding its presence in the cell-phone market.

Shares of MDA Space sank after EchoStar cancelled its $1.3 billion satellite contract with the Canadian communications provider due to its spectrum sale to SpaceX.

StubHub outlined plans for a long-awaited initial public offering that could give the ticket reseller a market capitalization topping $9 billion.
