ConocoPhillips Reaches LNG Supply Deal With NextDecade

By Dean Seal

ConocoPhillips has signed a 20-year deal to buy liquified natural gas from NextDecade's export terminal project near Brownsville, Texas.

The Houston-based oil-and-gas company said Monday that it intends to buy 1 million metric tons of liquified natural gas each year from NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG project, which is still under construction.

The arrangement is contingent on NextDecade making a positive final investment decision on Train 5, a planned liquefaction train.

"We will be a key foundation customer for Train 5," Khoa Dao, ConocoPhillips' chief commercial officer, said in a statement.
