CSX Unveils Hydrogen-Powered Locomotive Developed With CPKC
By Ben Glickman
CSX said it completed its first hydrogen-powered locomotive as part of a partnership with Canadian Pacific Kansas City.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based rail-freight operator said the hydrogen locomotive was converted from an existing diesel-powered locomotive using a kit made by CPKC.
CSX said it would deploy the new locomotive in field testing and would evaluate its performance.
The collaboration between the two rail companies was announced in June. CPKC has been developing hydrogen-powered locomotives since late 2020.
