Spirit AeroSystems Shares Rise on Report of Talks With Boeing
By Ben Glickman
Shares of Spirit AeroSystems rose after The Wall Street Journal reported the company was in talks to be acquired by Boeing.
Spirit's stock popped 5.9% after the Journal reported the news, before trading was halted due to volatility. Shares are down about 1.6% since the start of the year.
Boeing stock was down 1.7%, to $200, in late morning trading.
Spirit has hired bankers to explore strategic options, according to people familiar with the matter, and has had early discussions with Boeing, which it split off from in 2004.
The Journal reported that Spirit is exploring selling operations in Ireland that make parts for Airbus.
The talks may not lead to any acquisition.
